Chinese carpet half 19th century, hand -knotted in wool, color of the beige background with final border in blue, color that characterizes Chinese rugs. It has a central medallion adorned with peonies, and other symbolic flowers. Its border is very particular and unusual we find "thunder", a symbol of infinite luck. The carpet described is an ancient carpet from the Ningxia region (Ninghsia), an area historically renowned for the production of high quality rugs in the province of Kansu (current Gansu), located in Western China. Ningxia reached its peak as a weaving center of rugs between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when local craftsmen developed a distinctive style characterized by refined motifs, natural colors and advanced bored techniques.
