Silvio Formichetti was born in 1969 in Pratola Peligna (AQ). His early works depicted nude women and landscapes of the Abruzzo hinterland. His interest in Informal painting began in the mid-1990s. He was drawn to Pollock, American action painting, and Dova, Afro, Widow, and Hans Hartung. In 1999, he moved to abstraction of sign and gesture, and in 2011, he was invited to the 54th Venice Biennale - Italian Pavilion by Vittorio Sgarbi. His exhibitions in Italy include: various participations in the "International Review of Contemporary Art" in Sulmona (various editions from 1999 to 2016); personal exhibition at the Palazzetto dei Nobili in L'Aquila, catalogue by Carlo Fabrizio Carli and XXX edition of the "International Art Review of Sulmona" (2003); National Museum of Abruzzo in L'Aquila by Leo Strozzieri and Pierpaolo Bellucci and Diocesan Museum "Francesco Gonzaga" in Mantua, curated by Maurizio Gioia and Carlo Micheli (2007); Michetti Museum in Francavilla al Mare, with critical texts by Silvia Pegoraro and XIII Stauròs Biennial of Sacred Art, Museum of San Gabriele, Isola del Gran Sasso (2008); "Cromofobie", ex Aurum in Pescara by Silvia Pegoraro (2009); In 2010, at the Colonna Museum in Pescara, his works were united with those of Mario Schifano in the exhibition "Silvio Formichetti - Mario Schifano. Darkness. The Edge of Colour" by Luca Beatrice.
