This fascinating oenological instrument from the late nineteenth century represents a valuable example of mechanical engineering applied to the historic cellar. The object has a quadrangular well structure in solid wood, finely reinforced by corners and profiles in riveted metal which guarantee its structural solidity. The main body rests on an elegant cast iron column base with a knurled circular foot, which gives stability and a decorative touch typical of the industrial aesthetics of the time.
The internal mechanism is characterized by a system of spherical weights and counterweights that act on levers and manual valves, designed to precisely regulate the flow of wine and pressure during filling. On the back there is a complex group of metal transmissions and micrometric screws for calibrating the process, while on the sides robust iron handles facilitate its movement. The original patina that covers the brass and iron components testifies to the authentic use and longevity of a tool created to combine production efficiency with the artisanal care of the final product.
