Item description

Vase in excellent condition, no damage, scratches or repairs, has manufacturer's label Dimensions: Height 38 cm Vase mouth diameter 16 cm Base diameter 14 cm White base bottom The history of the Seguso dynasty is traced over the next six centuries through attestations. In the second half of the 16th and 17th centuries, Seguso's artistic activity spread thanks to the development of new trade routes and the discovery of America. In 1605 the name Seguso was registered in the Golden Book of Murano, a register where the families of Murano glassmakers were raised to the rank of patricians. Throughout the 18th century, the Seguso family introduced the use of the filigree technique. In 1792 the name Seguso was included in the Murano osella, a coin minted by the Doges of the Serenissima as a gift to noble families. In 1932, a Seguso (born in 1888, son of Giovanni nicknamed Toni Patare) founded with his sons Ernesto, Archimede and Angelo and with Napoleone Barovier and Luigi Ferro, the Artistica Vetreria e Soffieria Barovier, Seguso e Ferro which in 1937 became Seguso Vetri d'Arte and obtained the Grand Prix at the Paris World Exhibition in the same year. The children also work in the furnace with different roles, and the artistic direction is entrusted to Flavio Poli. After the Second World War, the glassworks won the Compasso d'Oro in the year of its first edition, 1954. In the 1970s, Seguso Vetri d`Arte left the family hands. Archimede (1909 -1999), having left his father's glass factory, has in the meantime undertaken his own artistic journey. Archimede's son, Giampaolo (1942), will do the same, and at the beginning of the 1990s he developed an artistic path using the glass of his works as a sheet on which to engrave his own poems. He also founded Seguso Viro. At the beginning of the 2000s, Seguso Interiors was born, created by Pierpaolo Seguso (1974, son of Giampaolo). It will be Gianluca (1971, son of Giampaolo) who will bring SEGUSO VETRI d`ARTE back into the family. Today Gianluca (1971), Pierpaolo (1974) and Gianandrea (1976) Seguso lead the company and its brands.
