Item description

The piece of furniture, in an excellent overall state of preservation, appears in the typical shape of an eighteenth-century tilted-floor curtain, with a three-drawer case superimposed on a writing room closed by a folding folding top, secured by an original keyed lock. The structure rests on a moulded plinth with shaped corbel feet, a solution common in Venetian carpentry in the early eighteenth century. The surface is entirely covered in walnut burl with a “book-like” effect — the specular veins are placed in pairs to create symmetrical geometric compositions of great decorative effect — surrounded by solid walnut fillets that define the mirrors and edges. The folding top features a central diamond design obtained from the radial arrangement of the burl, framed by a double thread. The color is warm, with alternating honey, amber and dark brown tones that enhance the natural beauty of the grain. The three drawers of the lower body, sloping in height from bottom to top according to the construction practice of the time, have bow handles in cast brass with volute rosettes and machined lock nozzles. Inside the gutter there is space for four drawers arranged in pairs on either side of the furniture and separated from each other by a living room. The molded profiles that separate the drawers and delimit the writing surface give the whole a sober and orderly rhythm, typical of Venetian production in the non-lagoon area.
