Item description

The bust depicts an elegant female figure, rendered with stylized and elongated features typical of the Liberty style. The face, of opaque workmanship, presents summary but expressive features, with half-closed eyes and a thin nose that give the work an aura of quiet interiority. The hair, gathered in a wide bun, is treated with a glossy glaze in a green-greyish hue, creating a suggestive contrast with the crazy surface of the face and neck. On the right side of the bust, at shoulder height, are modeled two rose reliefs with foliage, a recurring ornamental detail in early twentieth-century French decorative ceramics. The drapery that bands the base is also partially glazed, accentuating the plastic quality of the whole. The work is part of the tradition of decorative furnishing ceramics widespread in France between the Belle Époque and the 1930s.
