Porcelain flower vase, early 20th century
SILVER Seller in Venezia, Italy
SILVER Seller in Venezia, Italy
Elegant white porcelain vase of hexagonal shape with matching base, hand decorated with vibrant polychromy according to the tradition of the pink family (fencai). The body, pot-bellied in shape with a flared hem, is entirely painted with a refined court scene animated by male figures and children in traditional dress, immersed in a mountain landscape with blue rocks and vegetation. The characters bear symbolic objects — lanterns, lotus flowers, fish — iconographic references to the Eight Immortals and propitiatory themes typical of Chinese decorative art. The upper edge is adorned with a band with floral and volute motifs in red, yellow and green, while the lower band features geometric decorations with a blue background with yellow and pink/red squares. The octagonal base features the same decorative elements with yellow Greek key friezes and stylised flowers. In good condition, with slight signs of use consistent with the time.
