We are pleased to present this splendid 19th century Italian school oil painting on canvas. The painting portrays a young woman sitting outdoors on a stone terrace.
The woman is depicted in three-quarter view, facing right, with her large blue eyes looking at the viewer. A slight smile conveys serenity and composure. Her hair is brown, shiny, straight on the top of the head and with voluminous curls on the sides of the face, according to the hairstyles of the time. She is wearing a long ivory-colored day dress, light and refined. Some jewels underline her aristocratic social status, without excess, but with great elegance: a gold cameo brooch adorns the collar in the center of her chest and a gold bracelet adorns her left wrist. The wedding ring is clearly visible on the finger of her left hand, underlining her social status as a young married woman. Her hands are delicately clasped in her lap and her right hand holds a small book with a dark red cover. The woman is sitting in a wooden armchair upholstered in bright red, a style attributable to the Louis Philippe period (first half of the 19th century). A bright blue scarf rests on the arm of the chair.
