Great religious painting of the first half of the seventeenth century. Image of oil on canvas that depicts the scourge, one of the most dramatic moments of the passion. Christ, connected to the column, receives the blows of the scourges of four torturers, represented in different poses and in full movement.
The work of extraordinary pictorial quality, the dramatic use of the chiaroscuro technique and the meticulous naturalistic details make it a prestigious work attributable to the Emilian school of the early seventeenth centuries. The architectural environment, with arches and openings towards the outside, gives depth, while the light that arrives laterally creates a wonderful game of shadows. The scene, of great emotional force, is characterized by the vigorous anatomical performance and the dynamism of the composition.
The rarity of the subject treated with this energy makes it a collector's piece capable of enriching both a private collection as an environment of classic and modern representation. Nineteenth century cake in carved and golden wood, with some signs of time. Work already restored with Rintelo, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small points. Overall in a good conservative state. Painted light H 78 x L 61 cm.
