Item description

This bench designed by Kai Kristiansen has a very typical approach to Danish design in the 1960s: removing all the unnecessary until you leave only what you really need. The result is a furniture that is extremely simple on the surface, but built with a precision that emerges above all by observing it up close. The structure is thin, well-proportioned, almost graphic in the way it draws the space. The legs connect to the seat continuously, without rigid interruptions, while the teak accompanies the entire volume with dense veins and tones that change slightly depending on the light. Many benches produced by Aksel Kjersgaard in the 1960s were designed specifically for entrances and passageways, where the furniture had to be functional but also capable of visually lightening the space. This one maintains exactly that same quality: it can work in an entrance hall, next to a free wall or at the foot of a bed without ever being bulky. Even empty retains a very defined presence, thanks to the balance between structure, material and proportions.
