We are pleased to present this 19th century Italian painting, oil on canvas. It is a classic still life, characterized by a rich and complex composition.
A lush vertical floral arrangement dominates the right side. Among the flowers, you can admire roses in shades of pink and white, tulips, wildflowers and small buds. At the base of the wreath are some fruits, including an apple or a peach and bunches of dark grapes. On the left stands a large stone arch, partially in ruins, covered in wild vegetation at the top. The arch opening acts as a "frame within a frame", drawing the viewer's eye to a distant hilly landscape in the background. Large, light white clouds fill the blue sky at the top of the canvas. The pictorial quality is excellent: the painting plays on the contrast between the warm and earthy tones of the ruins in the foreground, the vibrant colors of the flowers (pink, yellow, red) and the freshness of the background, dominated by pastel blues and greens. The light comes mainly from the left, illuminating the profile of the arch and highlighting the details of the petals, leaving the vegetation below in shadow. The painting fits perfectly into the still life genre, rich in allegorical elements: the ephemeral beauty of nature (flowers and fruits) contrasts with the permanence, albeit decadent, of human works (ruins).
A wonderful painting that will enchant your guests! If you love ancient art and still lifes, you absolutely must add this stunning painting to your collection.
The painting is completed by a 19th century silvered wooden frame which shows some signs of oxidation. The work has undergone an excellent restoration, with some interventions visible on the canvas on the back (see all photos).
