Description: Ancient Neapolitan sculpture in polychrome wood depicting the Immaculate Madonna belonging to the 18th century. The Virgin Mary is represented in a moment of deep devotion with her hands clasped on her chest in a prayerful position and her gaze turned upwards to symbolize her purity and her direct connection with the divine. Mary rests her feet on a large green-blue sphere which represents the world, an element which symbolizes the triumph of the virgin over earthly sin. At the base of the globe emerge two heads of winged angels who have the ideal function of supporting the Virgin. The statue rests on a non-coeval shelf also made of gilded and carved wood.
