Item description

Antique Italian painting from the second half of the 19th century. Oil on canvas, first canvas, depicting the Baptism of Jesus by Saint John the Baptist. A visually striking painting, rich in figures and characterized by great luminosity. A contemporary wood and gesso frame, applied to the front of the painting (see photo), with small decorative flaws. The painting depicts Christ in the center, illuminated by the Holy Spirit (see photo), with a multitude of awed and praying people on the sides witnessing the scene. A large, impactful painting with a beautiful patina, ideal for a living room or study. The painting has undergone some conservative restoration work, including the replacement of the stretcher and the restoration of the color with patches on the back (see photo). It has small tears and signs of previous restoration (see photo). It is in fair condition, requiring restoration. Painting size: H 135 W 171 cm
