Sheet size 32x42 cm. Exemplar hand signed by the artist edition THE GATE N.18371 of 500 signed copies in total. Original lithograph licensed by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The printing technique for these prints by Christo are a special high dot density offset lithography. The Gates series of prints (see numbering below*) are printed on a special paper called hammered cardstock with an ivory surface. It is similar to the paper used by artists for drawing. The paper is very thick, a little rough and therefore very resistant to any damage. The printer needs three to ten times more ink than regular art paper because the surface is not closed and the ink goes deep inside the paper. This makes for a much brighter image. ( * 9345, 9346, 17685, 18277, 18296, 18370, 18371, 18372, 18376, 18377, 18378, 18379, 18383 (I, II, IV, VIII, IX, XV, XIX, XX, XXI, XIII, XXIV, XXV, XXVI, and XXIX). The work has a lacquered frame and is installed suspended on double perspex glass on an American box frame.
