Item description

Large Italian religious painting from the end of the 16th century depicting the sermon of St. John the Baptist. Monumental oil on canvas work (painting span: H 178 L 250) for lovers of Italian painting of the high period. A painting of remarkable pictorial quality with the typical features of Emilian Mannerism. In the composition we find Saint John in front of a crowd of people. Beautiful women with elongated necks in the foreground, men and wise old men listening, depicted in a variety of attitudes and positions that give the painting great dynamism. Note the quality of the drapery, the complexion and the colours, still brilliant after centuries, which denote an excellent state of conservation. Important 18th century antique frame in carved and gilded wood, with some gilding losses and various signs of ageing (see photo). The painting has been retouched and restored during the 20th century, overall in a good state of preservation. Painted light H 178 x W 250 cm.
