Item description

Very rare vases in shape and decoration produced by the Schütz Brothers. Brothers Arnold and Ludwig Richard Schütz registered the new business in 1854, first concentrating on stoneware with more rustic designs and finally gaining more experience with faience and its possibilities, based on friendly contacts with various artists and designers. Shortly afterwards, the company already employed three designers and even opened a special art and decoration department in Vienna. This further increased their contacts with famous artists and led to a wide range of attractively designed decorations such as plates, vases, figures and centrepieces. The new product range was an immediate success and in 1870 the brothers founded a subsidiary to cope with the demand. The 'Majolika-, Steinut- und Schamottefabrik Gebrüder Schütz' was located in Liboje near Cilli in the former Lower Styrian area because the area offered all the necessary resources such as clay and feldspar. It should be mentioned here that the company's main market was Austria and Germany as well as surrounding countries, and items marked directly for export abroad are relatively hard to find.
