Item description

Exceptional and massive Italian tray in silver titled 800 thousandths; the shape is elegant with soft and balanced lines; the edge has been shaped in a wise way to give strength to the whole tray; the handles, valuable and refined, are of fusion and finished minutely with chisel; the baroque rocailles decorations, wisely placed on the edge, are also cast but with an even more detailed chiselling; on the back, there is the mark "800" indicating the title of the silver and the producer's mark "29 VC"; we can therefore state exactly that the tray is from the Fabbrica Argenteria F. lli Borzoni (Via V.Alfieri 21 Vercelli- Piemonte-Italy) and that, examining the workmanship, the style and the manufacture, it was produced between 1950 and 1955. The F.lli Borzoni Factory was one of the most important silverware factories in Vercelli, operating with a registered trademark from 09.09.1935 to 31.12.1971; their silverware production was of the highest level and very rich, especially as regards elegant table trays, vases of various sizes, risers, cups, napkin rings, bottle holders, aperitifs, candlesticks, baskets, jugs, fruit bowls and coffee services. The city of Vercelli was a very active and important centre for the production of silverware and filigree jewellery; between 1770 and 1871, the year of the unification of Italy, more than eighty shops with their own brand were active in Vercelli, which for more than two centuries, from the 18th to the 20th century, brought the city to the highest levels of artistic and artisan production in Italy; in the last two decades, then, manufactures took hold that looked to a market that was now crossing regional borders and reaching beyond the Alps. The greatest example is that of the Sambonet company, which in the course of the 20th century, after the artisan adventure of the Vercelli goldsmiths had come to an end, became one of the most important silversmiths in Italy and the world. Our tray presents a state of wear and tear, due to use, very uniform and involving, beautiful to see and appreciate; with photos, unfortunately, it is not possible to communicate this interesting characteristic, only taking it in your hand transmits, even to the touch, the exceptionality of its richness and its pleasantness that an attentive and educated to beauty will certainly perceive and enjoy. Measurements: width 83 cm, depth 53 cm, height 4 cm, weight 3998 g.
