Triptych of watercolours on laid paper, 19th century. Portraits of virtuous women: science, charity, work. By Jean Louis Victor Viger du Vigneau (1819-1879) Period: first half 19th century The central watercolour is signed lower right Condition: Good condition. Original coeval frame Dimensions of each watercoloured side: 16.5 x 6.5 cm Dimensions of the central watercolour: 20 x 6,5 cm Size of frame: 28,5 x 35,5 cm Excellent light and graceful watercolours Viger du Vigneau, known as Viger, historical and genre painter and miniaturist born in Argentan on 25/10/1819, died in Paris on 15 March 1879. Pupil of Monvoisin, Drollind and Paul Delaroche: he entered the School on 3/4/1844. He exhibited at the Salon from 1845 to 1879. At the beginning of his career, he painted miniatures and fans for a living, but it was not long before he obtained more serious work, in particular paintings for numerous provincial churches. In Paris, he painted at the Palace of the Legion of Honour. His works can be found in the museums Alencon; Argentan; Cherbourg; Marseille; Orleans; Paris (Musee Marmotan) Ref. E.Benezit 1954
