Item description

In a desolate landscape marked by a small cactus, we see a tired donkey with the Virgin on its back who holds and lovingly looks at the Child. The line is dense, the lines intersect, creating plays of light evident on the draped mantle of the Virgin and on the surface of the animal's mantle. The design is squared for the transfer on the wall, it is in fact the model for the fresco that is still visible today on the left wall of the main altar of the Cathedral of Chieri. Gamba and his colleague Gastaldi are documented to work on the restructuring of the Cathedral of Chieri between 1875 and 1880. This information is confirmed by the writing in pen at the bottom right: 5 February 80 / (p Chieri). Bottom left, signature in pencil.
