This bedside table was part of a charming bedroom set originally produced for the presidential suite of the Imperial Hotel in Carlsbad by the firm Portois and Fix.
The nightstand has been unprofessionally refurbished on some parts of the surface over time, so it requires professional restoration. In general, the cabinet is in good structural condition, but bears the signs of age and use. It is made of wood and glass. Height 78 cm, width 44 cm, depth 40 cm.
The Imperial International Grand Hotel was conceived by Carlsbad entrepreneur Alfred Schwalb in the early 20th century, when the spa town lacked sufficient accommodation capacity. The interior was furnished by Portois & Fix, a Viennese furniture company. The Imperial opened its doors on June 18, 1912. The first honored guests were aristocrats, politicians, businessmen and financial tycoons. Imperial guests included, for example, members of the great Rothschild family, the Polish noble family of Potocky or the Russian Grand Duke Paul, Hollywood stars Douglas Fairbanks with his wife Mary Pickford, composer Richard Strauss, and President T. G. Masaryk.
