Hand-painted ceramic vinegar and oil cruet. Spica Manufactory, Albisola Capo. Italy, First half of the 20th century. The 'S.P.I.C.A.' (Società Per l'Industria di Ceramiche Artistiche) was founded as a cooperative, in Albisola Capo, in 1925 by the ceramist Ivos Pacetti with the financial support of several partners including the painter Grillo and the Savona publisher Luigi Brizio and the artistic direction of Paolo (Polo) Rebroin. In 1927 the 'S.P.I.C.A.' became a joint-stock company and two years later the Parma painter Romano di Massa took over as artistic and technical director, holding the position until April 1932. In 1933, Arturo Martini created the small plastic Madonna della Misericordia produced in a small series by the factory. In the first half of the 1930s, Lino Berzoini collaborated with the factory. In 1938 the factory was taken over by Nicolò Ghersi, a former employee of the 'la Fenice' factory, in partnership with Alfredo Vivado. The factory devoted itself to a good level of artistic production, also producing some unique pieces and achieving interesting technical results, especially in the decorative use of metalloids such as gold, silver and nickel. In 1946, the factory won, ex-aequo with the ceramic factory 'Ce.As.', the first prize for a tea service at the Mostra Concorso di Albissola Marina. In 1948 the factory was present, with some ceramics by Lino Berzoini, at the Premio Faenza The factory, whose trademark consisted of the acronym and the graphic symbol of an ear of wheat, ceased production in 1955. H 17 cm, W 6 cm. The pieces are in good condition, as can be seen from the attached photos. There is a chipping on one of the upper edges and some minor ones on the lower edges. The caps have been restored. Assess through the photos.
