SILVER Seller in Milano, Italy
In a meticulously described rustic interior, filled with typical objects of a science man's study, a man with a curious hood disinfects the wound in the arm of a second man seated in the center in a cry of pain. Behind them a woman, probably her wife, holds a bundle of vegetables and crosses her hands in an expression that is somewhere between frightened and hopeful. The wide and deep sign creates intense chiaroscuro contrasts. Bottom left signature and date: Corn. duSart fe. et inv./1695. In the lower white margin the title: Heelmeester and an explanatory couplet on two columns signed: A.B. Excellent impression from intense blacks. Excellent state of conservation. Specimen trimmed inside the stop. The lack of the white area under the couplet does not allow to distinguish whether it is a second or third state, in fact, in the third state, in that area, the privilege is engraved. Watermark: written on two lines, not identifiable.
