Item description

Hand cut crystal liqueur bottle. Its shape is unusual and particular, even the cap takes up the lines of the bottle. An excellent lead crystal was used for its execution, which gives the material a high refractive index. With manual and artisan techniques of cutting, grinding and polishing, the surface of the bottle creates extraordinary plays of light and reflections. The whole body of the bottle has an extremely precise manual workmanship, there are small elements in relief, which are also finely crafted. The bottle was made between 1920 and 1925 in northern Bohemia in the Jablonec nad Nisou area, in one of the many local artisan workshops where the working, blowing, handling, carving and decoration of glass had their maximum splendor since antiquity; where even today numerous workshops of artists and designers are concentrated, to whom we owe the perpetuation of a delicate and ancient art. The precious opaque starry and linear engravings are skilfully contrasted by the perfect glossy grindings and the classic Bohemian workmanship of the early 20th century. When crystal was discovered in Italy in 1450, obtainable by adding sodium and manganese to glass, Bohemia, an ancient region of central Europe already renowned for the production and processing of glass, immediately welcomed the novelty, but it was only it was in 17th century that the Bohemians discovered all the secrets to give life to the most beautiful and luminous crystal ever seen: thus the Bohemian crystal was born.
