Item description

Cast, embossed and chased silver vinegar cruet, not contemporary ground crystal cruets. Paris, master goldsmith 'S.J. Dupezard', first quarter 19th century. Elegant model with a plinth-shaped main body supported by four ferine paws placed at the corners, four circular compartments, the two largest of which carry ampoules, each consisting of three musician putti with herm-like bodies. Central section with applied neoclassical dolphin, connecting band adorned with antemi and a pair of masks depicting the Greek god Dionysus, raised column with a three-quarter sphere top culminating in the figure of a boy in antique clothing, who holds the handle for holding. Decorative apparatus completed with leaf and bead friezes and floral applications placed on the two long sides of the base plinth. Engraved monogram; it bears hallmarks of the goldsmith, the title, the city guarantee and an unofficial one used by the Association des Orfévres. Grams 756.
