Item description

French candlestick in transparent lead crystal; the shape, full of soft curves and rounded ends, fascinates us with its refined plasticity and unparalleled lightness; the design is simple and decisive, skilfully proportioned, the result of an intelligent aesthetic reflection; it was made with very high quality lead crystal, i.e. with a lead oxide content of more than 30 percent; The high lead content, which replaces the calcium present in ordinary glass, gives the crystal considerable hardness, exceptional transparency and a high refractive index; the Master Craftsmen have managed to make the block of crystal massive, delicate and almost vaporous; they transformed the crystal by twisting it, working it with pincers and shaping it by hand, thus creating an aesthetically extraordinary and convincing object. The candlestick was made in Art Deco style between 1930 and 1935 in an artisan workshop in the town of Vannes-le-Chatel, located in the Meurthe and Moselle department in the Grand Est region (France), an area very famous for its glass production; many local artisans collaborated with the Vannes Glassware and often, as in our case, were inspired by the models of the Glassware itself for their precious creations. History traces the foundation of the Vannes Glassware to around 1765, under aristocratic patronage, and it immediately became one of the most important glass manufacturers in France, producing glass tableware, and then diversified into ornamental works in 1930; as mentioned, the company relied on the invaluable local workforce scattered in the numerous craft workshops in the area. The candlestick is in good condition. Measures width cm.20, depth cm.5, height cm.15. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
