Item description

Sancai glazed ceramic altar table sculpture made in China during the Ming period (1368-1644). Finely modeled in every detail: the table is set with various dishes for offerings; these are meticulously rendered, with engraved detail and brilliant ochre, green and brown pigment. Such terracotta compositions would have been made for funerary purposes, buried with the deceased in the belief that he could enjoy his favorite foods in the afterlife.
