Artona 7520 chest of drawers by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto, 1970s. Furniture storage unit mounted on wheels, made of plywood and veneered with national walnut slats. Back and sides enclose the top slightly overhanging the eight drawers below, which in turn are enclosed between the sides and bottom in plywood. The drawers, made entirely of national walnut, have fronts covered with genuine leather of the same color as the walnut wood and real leather loop handles. The workmanship of this piece of furniture - industrial but made with the wisdom of the highest craftsmanship of cabinetmaking - is well in keeping with the thought of T. Adorno when he states that "Aesthetic splendor and the labor of the craftsman's hand are not merely an affirmation of an idea of the world, but the reflection of an invincible life: so long as they hold out against a decadence they contain a hope". Perfect condition with very slight signs of time; only the leather of the eyelet handles shows cracking in some cases.
