Item description
Hand-knotted French Cogolin rug, 1950s-60s. Light blue background, blue border and colored Art Deco pattern. Established in 1928 by Jean Lauer in Cogolin, a small town on the Côte d'Azur, Manufacture Cogolin experienced considerable development from the 1930s onward. From hand-tufted to woven on 19th-century Jacquard looms, Cogolin's carpet is recognizable for the unparalleled elegance of its floral and geometric relief motifs and its vibrant color palette. It occupies a prominent place in French heritage history because of the richness of its historical and cultural heritage and the skill of its craftsmen.
