According to Bartsch and Passavant, the subject is derived from an invention by Perin del Vaga, recognisable in particular in the figure of the blind man, which is reminiscent of the artist's style during the period when he was active in Raphael's workshop. A scene from the New Testament is depicted (John 9:1-9). At the centre of the scene Christ followed by a group of men, a bearded man seen in profile, with long hair and dressed in a tunic and sandals, is caught in the act of extending his hand to a young blind boy, also in profile, seated on steps in front of him. The scene takes place inside a marble courtyard bordered by an arcade. The blind man grasps a stick with his left hand and extends his right hand to grasp Christ's hand. On the left above is a small piece of landscape: a large tree with luxuriant foliage and houses with a tower. In terms of format and the type of figures, the print is reminiscent of Christ in the House of Simon (TIB 26) by Marcantonio Raimondi, which Mariette recognises as being derived from a cycle of frescoes by Giulio Romani and Giovanni Francesco Penni in S. Trinità dei Monti in Rome dating from around 1520. Excellent impression, very good state of preservation with minimal margins, only a printing crease in the upper right corner is noted. Watermark: unidentifiable figure in the circle similar to "pilgrim in the circle" or "Easter lamb in the circle", 16th century.
