Painter, poet and essayist, Virgilio Guidi always maintained a solitary, critical position and never one of absolute programmatic adhesion to the aesthetic dictates of 20th century artistic groups or currents, even though he was always the bearer of significant personal contributions to new pictorial research. From the 1940s onwards, Guidi began to systematically develop large cycles, with which he repeatedly investigated the same subject-composition nucleus, while continuing to follow the leitmotif of his entire art: light. His painting favoured the choice of delicate tonal chords and the representation of figurative and landscape elements through abstract rhythms.
