Item description
Carnevale veneziano. Oil on canvas. 1991. Signed at lower right. On the back a further signature, title and date. Giovanna Madoi's painting is part of a "timeless" art that explores an inner dimension with deep probing and that has chosen the human figure as its only leading theme. Her eccentric figures, departed from the surrealist poetics that enjoyed a certain fortune in Milan after the war, populate her canvases with a humanity made up of solid and firm masses, strong and almost deformed, compact and perhaps a bit awkward in their mutual relations. All realized with a textural color, in which there are sudden flashes of blue or red. Most notable is either the mixing of color with black, or the creation of a solid chiaroscuro with deep black shadows that accentuate the nocturnal and unreal aspect of the whole. The work is presented in period a frame.
