Item description
Etching by Henri Charles Guérard (Paris, 1846 – 1897) depicting Faure as Hamlet, 1884. The author founded the Société des Peintres-Graveurs français with Félix Bracquemond in 1891. The subject derives from a painting by E. Manet which portrays the French baritone Jean-Baptiste Faure (1830-1914) in the role of Hamlet. Superb impression of this rare etching printed on parchment with the author's red stamp depicting a wine press. Below the engraved subject: H. Guérard on the left and Manet 1877 on the right. Bertin describes a proof on parchment that belonged to Guérard's collection. Excellent impression with good margins. Excellent state of conservation. Bibliography: Bertin 560.
