Etching by Eleuterio Pagliano (Casale Monferrato, 1826 – Milan, 1903) depicting an Abruzzo peasant. The latter, sitting on a low stone in right profile, in folk costume and hat, holds his head with his left hand resting on his knee. Signature engraved on the bottom left. Subject of invention. The plate presents a dusty effect probably obtained with drops of acid thrown directly onto the metal. A delicate veil of ink reveals the author's sensitivity towards those light effects that characterize his best and most mature engravings. Mezzetti proposes to date the execution by 1878, the date present on the example preserved at the Permanente in Milan. Fresh and rich impression of chiaroscuro with good margins. Uncut sheet.
