Item description

Hand-painted ceramic sculpture by Antonio Ronzan depicting a girl with birds, 1940s. It is in excellent condition, as can be seen from the attached photos. It shows some tiny superficial defects in the glaze, of little importance. The ceramist Antonio Ronzan was born in Nove di Bassano on 4 July 1914. He worked for the Turin ceramic manufactory Lenci, together with his brothers Giuseppe, Giovanni and his sister Tina from 1937 until 1939. After leaving the Lenci company in 1939, Antonio, Giovanni and Tina join their brother Giuseppe in the Ronzan ceramic factory based in Turin, via Guido Reni 80/17, which he created over a year earlier. He was recalled during the war and upon his return he joined his brother Giovanni who in the meantime had moved production to Bassano. Subsequently his brother Giovanni left Bassano and returned to Turin where he founded another factory which he left to Antonio in 1968. In 1985 Antonio died and left the business to his children Giuditta and Pietro who continued production under the name Ceramica d'Arte Religiosa di Ronzan P. & G. until 2001.
