Item description
Two large theatre wall sconces designed and produced in Italy in the 1950s, both sconces have a line in the plexiglass visible in the photos. They are functional. The wall sconces are made of brass as the main material for their frames. Brass was a popular choice for mid-century modern lighting fixtures due to its durability, malleability and ability to achieve a warm golden hue. Plexiglass, a lightweight and durable thermoplastic material, is used for large diffusers in wall sconces. Plexiglass has enabled designers to create interesting shapes and to diffuse light effectively, adding a modern touch to the fixtures. The design of the wall lights reflects the sleek and streamlined aesthetics typical of mid-century modern design. They are characterised by clean lines and geometric shapes, evoking a sense of simplicity and sophistication. Stilux was an Italian lighting company that made its mark in the mid-20th century with innovative designs that combined functionality and aesthetics. Stilux's designs embraced the principles of minimalism, focusing on the essential elements and avoiding unnecessary ornamentation.
