Item description

Hsiao Chin (Shanghai 1935 - Milan 2023) is the son of a well-known musicologist and composer, a public figure in China who died in prison in 1940. He grew up with his paternal uncles and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Taipei. Although abstract art and the use of certain colours was forbidden, Hsiao and some colleagues founded the first abstract group in 1955: Ton Fan. In 1956 he got a scholarship and moved to Barcelona, wrote articles and met avant-garde artists in France and Italy. In 1959 he exhibited in Florence, then moved to Milan where he met the Spazialisti and became friends with Gabriele Mazzotta and Giorgio Marconi. His restless character led him to work and exhibit, teach and found research groups in Italy, the United States, Holland and South America in collaboration with European and American artists. His point of reference always remains Italy and Milan. In continuous evolution and research, he remains faithful to his intention of understanding art as communication and rediscovery of pre-existing energies in nature and in man's inner strength. The composition is developed on three colour bands: red, turquoise and black. Three strong colours that are not complementary but in harmony with each other. An abstract and geometric composition at the same time. Bottom right in pen: 40/40, signature and date '71. Impression on fine japon-type paper. On the reverse in pencil in low0: H C n 8. Excellent state of preservation.
