Antique Caravaggio school painting, 17th century. Oil painting on canvas depicting a subject of great fascination, card players. For the tavern setting it is reminiscent of Flemish authors, but as a genre scene it has several points in common with Caravaggio's cheats, in that in this composition too we find a swindle. In fact, a naive young man is playing his cards and a character on the left seems to suggest them to his accomplices. Painting of remarkable painterly quality; note the realism of the faces and the masterful use of the chiaroscuro technique to create plasticity, volume and depth. Wonderful draperies, minute and moving naturalistic details. It has undergone restoration with frame replacement and color restoration in some places and has been restretched (see photos). Overall in good state of preservation. Size without frame: 106.5 x 133.5 cm.
