Porcelain Cobalt Net tea service by Lomonosov, 1940s
Tea and pastry service for twelve people mod. Cobalt Net by the Russian Imperial Lomonosov Factory, 1940s. Made of the finest hand-decorated porcelain in blue tones with inclusion of pure gold details. The Russian Imperial Factory was established in 1744 at the behest of Empress Elizabeth. For most of its history it produced fine porcelain exclusively for the Imperial family and its court. With the founding of the USSR and the fall of the Romanov empire, the factory was used to produce mainly propaganda items. On the occasion of the bicentennial of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the factory is named after its founder Mikail Lomonosov. The Cobalt Net model is produced at this time and features a highly refined cobalt blue color, inspired by a service made for Empress Catherine the Great. The service features the factory mark and the inscription Made in USSR under each piece. It is in excellent state of preservation and has no defects. Service consists of forty-two pieces, specifically twelve teacups with respective saucers, twelve saucers for pastries, two serving plates, one large teapot, one small teapot, one milk jug and one sugar bowl.
