Splendid Flemish painting of the first half of the seventeenth century. Oil work on the table of excellent pictorial quality depicting a mythological subject of great charm, Bacchus and Arianna. The princess of Crete had been abandoned by Teseo on the island of Nasso after helping him to leave the minotaur labyrinth. Arianna will rescue Dionysus, divinity of ecstasy and wine, who will marry the beautiful princess in the presence of the gods. In our composition, the protagonists exchange an intense look; While Dionysus embraces Arianna she holds a parrot in the left hand, a symbol of marital loyalty but also of lust depending on the context. Picture already restored with the application of a resistant park on the back (see photo) and the recovery of color in small points. Scenographic frame of the twentieth century in carved and golden wood with floral and fruit motifs, with some signs of time. Overall operates in good conservative state. Painted light h 57 x l 42 cm.
