4 Leggera 646 chairs by Gio Ponti for Cassina, 1950s

In 1949, Ponti made the first of two prototypes of the chair he had in mind; at this stage of the design, the designer focused on the formal and ergonomic part; the upper part of the backrest was bent backward, also creating a modern feel to the line while maintaining the tradition of the inspirational model. In 1951 the project evolved with a second prototype, the Chiavari model was then reduced to its essential elements and then cleaned up in form and lightened. In this prototype, called Leggera put into production by Cassina.
