Elegant and distinctive cachepot in porcelain stoneware—a high-fired ceramic known for its exceptional strength and density, commonly used for high-quality decorative and interior design objects. The surface was wheel-thrown and finished with a matte glaze, featuring subtle tonal variations that highlight its artisanal craftsmanship. The decoration, entirely hand-painted (as indicated by the décor main inscription on the base), portrays a stylized female figure inspired by African art. Rendered in black silhouette against a light background, the design reflects the primitivist and modernist aesthetic of the 1950s. On the reverse, a geometric ornamental motif provides visual balance to the composition. The underside bears the signature "Milet", the impressed mark “Sèvres”, and the hand-inscribed décor main, confirming its handmade origin. This type of marking is typical of independent studios or small ateliers associated with the modern-era production in the Sèvres district. The artist, Paul Milet, was an active ceramist during the second half of the 20th century, known for his collaborations with the Sèvres workshops—one of France’s most historically significant ceramic institutions. Though not widely known to the general public, Minet's work is highly regarded for its graphic quality and refined formal language. Pieces signed “Milet Sèvres” are typically dated between the 1940s and 1960s. This cachepot can be dated to around 1950.
