The Bergamo artist Giulio Vito Musitelli was a portraitist, landscape painter, and a very personal and sensitive painter of peasant life. This self-portrait is part of his extensive portrait production characterized by a simplification and fixity of the gaze, therefore of the image, typical of Novecento, the artistic movement born in Milan in 1922 which promoted the return to the order of classical art. The bright color choices, although often deriving from darker shades, instead reflect the influence of the Bergamo pictorial school of the late nineteenth century. The work is presented in a period frame.
