Great decorative shield of the 19th century. Work in finely carved and golden wood with mythological motifs and figures, signed F. Barbedienne Paris, referable to the great French founder Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892). Founded in 1834, the Barbedienne Maison became the most famous bronzes of the country in the country by reproducing works by great artists and creating its original art objects that had international success.
The dish bears a splendid putto surrounded by four sectors in the center with delicious scenes of winged amorines, bacchanals, dance allegories, music, games and abundance. The refined geometric motifs with black scores divide and mark the scenes with meticulously carved figures that recall Renaissance art. In the large foundries it was practice to create wooden models from which the bronze merger molds then obtain but it could also be a finished work intended for exhibitions and presentations.
Rare object and of considerable quality, a perfect masterpiece to enrich a Wunderkammer, the so -called House of Wonders. A collector's piece or decorative element capable of ennobled classic and contemporary environments. It has some signs of the time, overall in good conservative state.
