Ancient Italian painting from the 17th century. Oil work on canvas depicting Saint Francis of Assisi in meditation, of notable pictorial quality. The Saint is represented in a cave, next to a skull, a book and a cross, iconographic symbols linked to spirituality and reflection on the transience of life.
A painting of excellent workmanship and in particular we note a Caravaggio-esque sensitivity in the naturalistic rendering of the face, hands and skull. Painting of great devotional impact, ideal for collectors of sacred art and suitable for classic and modern environments. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some gilding losses.
