Wonderful Flemish painting from the first half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas depicting a splendid landscape with figures, a lively genre scene of a village in the Netherlands. A crowd of farmers engage in dances, conversations and daily work while in the background a windmill dominates the composition.
The painting combines narrative finesse and decorative pleasantness, offering a fascinating glimpse of popular life in Northern Europe. The festive atmosphere, narrative density and attention to detail bring you immediately to the 17th century Flemish tradition. The painting has an initials at the bottom left (T.D.F. and a date which is not fully legible, probably an acronym for Teniers David decisit) referable to David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690).
Master of the representation of popular life, he elevated genre painting to a refined narrative form, capable of combining realistic observation and taste for the theatrical scene. (The work is not currently accompanied by expertise but it is possible to request it upon payment of the relevant additional costs).
Painting of notable pictorial quality and monumental dimensions, ideal for a large classic or modern representative environment. Spectacular 19th century frame in wood and plaster, beautifully decorated, with some signs of aging. Work already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots, overall in a good state of conservation. Light painting H 106 x W 158 cm.
