Large painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas depicting a splendid Arcadian-style Italian landscape, a pastoral scene set in the Roman countryside. The painting presents typical characteristics of a genre that had great international success, and which experienced renewed splendor during Romanticism. Naturalistic precision is thus combined with a sentimental taste for rural life, a view that transcends simple realism to evoke an ideal world.
Work attributable to Johan Matiaz Wuerzer (1760-1838), a German master celebrated for his lively compositions with animals. (The painting is not currently accompanied by expertise but it is possible to request it upon payment of the relevant additional costs). Cattle, horses, goats and sheep are rendered with extraordinary naturalness and luminosity, within a classical landscape dominated by ancient ruins and soft light.
The almost scientific attention to naturalistic details is notable, in particular the animals' coats, with excellent highlights and tonal transitions. A work with a strong decorative impact, ideal for prestigious, classic or modern environments, it is aimed at demanding collectors who want a refined painting. Spectacular 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Work already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation. Painting light H 81 x W 115 cm.
