We are pleased to present this large early 20th century oil on canvas painting. This splendid portrait of an Edwardian English lady is signed lower left C. B. Prescott and dated 1913, probably by the English painter Charles Barrow PRESCOTT (1870-1932), lacking authentication.
It is a fantastic painting in which the woman, in a three-quarter view, embodies all the characteristics of the English upper class of the early 20th century. The furniture surrounding the subject is elegant and refined; a large red velvet armchair creates a perfect contrast with the black dress. On the right, a large and precious potiche vase on a Louis XV table accentuates the value of the antique furniture. The woman wears a dress and a handbag that reflect the fashion of the time. His social status is underlined by the numerous jewels with precious stones that he displays with extreme ease. Under the coffee table you can see some books, probably designed to highlight her interest not only in fashion and jewelry, but also in culture and art. The pictorial quality is evident in the execution of the proportions, in the details and, above all, in the ability to portray the personality of the woman portrayed. Her face is full of expression: a determined look and a faint smile convey a strong and self-confident character, probably a woman who happily accepted her social status, enjoying both material and intellectual pleasures.
A wonderful painting that will enchant your guests! If you love antique portraits, you absolutely must add this stunning painting to your collection.
The painting is presented in a splendid recently created gilded wooden frame.
