Item description

The MTP wall unit was designed by Polish designer Marian Grabiński, originally as a wedding gift for IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad. The IKEA owner was so impressed with the furniture that it entered regular production and appeared in the Swedish company's catalogs in the 1960s. It boasted high-quality craftsmanship from Polish furniture factories and was highly functional, thanks to the freedom to choose the components included in the set. The shelving system is made of teak, a rare find. It includes a wardrobe and two vertical shelving units with cabinets, shelves, and storage for vinyl records. The furniture has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. Thanks to these treatments, the set looks stunning and will serve its new owner for many years without fear of damage or wear and tear from everyday use. Marian Grabiński was one of the leading furniture designers of the 1960s, combining the Polish school of design with the emerging Scandinavian modernism. As an engineer and designer, he created furniture based on functionality, modularity, and noble materials, responding to the needs of modern interiors in post-war Europe. In his design work, Grabiński created storage systems, chests of drawers, cabinets, and cabinet furniture, as well as sofas and armchairs, which were first introduced to the Polish market. These were distinguished by their simple design, logical division of space, and flexible use. His designs responded to the changing lifestyle of the 1960s—smaller apartments, the need for order and functionality, without sacrificing elegance. Marian Grabiński's work is characterized by minimalist lines, perfect proportions, and attention to detail. Today, his designs are considered an important part of the mid-century modern design heritage and an example of the international success of a Polish designer in the Scandinavian market.
