Ancient and enormous bronze pendant oil lamp dating back to the early 19th century.
The oil lamp, of uncommon dimensions, was produced for use in some stately palace in neoclassical Italy of the early 19th century.
It was precisely in this period that oil lamps were rediscovered after a long period of decline.
In fact, in the second half of the 18th century, only in Italy and especially in Rome, the production of so-called suspension oil lamps was resumed, equipped with an oil tank that could slide on a rod held in a vertical position by a large ballasted base.
It is interesting to note that in addition to Rome and the Papal State, the production of these lamps also took place, to a lesser extent, in Milan, Naples, Venice, Genoa and Florence, that is, in the most important cities in Italy.
Oil lamps of this type, called "Fiorentine" today by collectors, were made in most cases as table lamps, equipped with a ring at the end of the rod which facilitated their transport.
Floor lamps like the one on sale were rarely produced and only to be destined for the large halls of noble palaces.
The lamp for sale is 178 cm high and is made entirely of cast bronze.
The stem is held up by a large and heavy base with a diameter of 33 cm.
On the stem runs a large tank for the lampante oil with three flames in which the wick holders are made in neo-classical eagle head style.
The tank is equipped with a turned lid with an inverted cup, above which the tools necessary for the maintenance of the lamp itself are hung from a ring by means of chains.
A flame extinguishing scissors, a bell and a wick cleaner create the tool kit of this lamp.
The lamp is completely original and with the use of lampante oil and hemp wicks it can be lit again.
