Iconic floor lamp model “Ponte”, designed by the ARDITI Group and produced by Sormani around 1970. The lamp stands out for its spectacular arched structure composed of two parallel chrome-plated metal tubes connecting two marble bases, creating a truly luminous “bridge” in space. The lamp holders with two-tone diffuser spheres, characterised by a dark upper cap and an opaline lower diffuser, slide along the arch. The modular system allows you to adjust the position of the light globes along the arc, while each diffuser can rotate on its own axis, allowing for a variable and dramatic distribution of light. The power supply is via low voltage conducted by parallel metal tubes, an advanced technical solution for the time. The model represents an emblematic example of the radical Italian design of the early 1970s, in which formal research, modularity and technological innovation merge into an object with a strong sculptural presence. The ARDITI Group (acronym formed from the initials of the founding members) was a collective of Italian designers active between the late 1960s and early 1970s, a period characterised by intense experimentation in industrial design. The group devoted itself to developing innovative lighting solutions, often based on modular structures and adjustable systems, with a particular focus on the integration of architecture and light. Their designs reflect the experimental approach typical of Italian design of the time, in which technology, movement, and transformability become central elements of the domestic object. Founded in Arosio in the 1960s, Sormani was one of the most active Italian companies in the production of designer furniture and lighting during the Italian design boom.
